Winter Green Light Challenge Bulletin Boards

David Leech Elementary in Leechburg Area School District in Pennsylvania had a couple of fun challenges this winter to encourage Reflex usage and get their students math fact fluent.

Ms. Bobbi Lee Watson, a 3rd grade teacher, explains, “Fourth grade students challenged the third grade students over winter break. The goal was to see which class could earn the most snowflakes to fill their snow globes. Students were awarded one snowflake sticker per each day they reached their Green Light. Students who reached their Green Light every day of the challenge were awarded double snowflakes. The challenge was well received and the losing class requested a rematch.”

The second challenge was in February and they called it “We Love the Weekend.” For the challenge, “Students were awarded band aids to mend each class’s broken hearts. For each weekend day students reached Green Light status, they were awarded a band aid to put on the class heart. Snow days earned triple band aids.”

"They are making great progress with their math facts"

The students are very motivated to reach the milestones in the program, and the challenges have kept their Reflex usage up as well. They are making great progress with their math facts, and we look forward to hearing about their next Green Light Challenge!
