Unlocking New Reflex Games

Forget flashcards and boring fact fluency drills! Adaptive and individualized, ExploreLearning Reflex is the most effective (and fun!) system for mastering basic facts in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division for grades 2+.

What is Reflex?

Reflex’s engaging, game-based format covers the complete process of math fact mastery, from the initial acquisition of previously unknown facts through automaticity. Reflex continuously monitors students’ performance to help them achieve accomplishments at their own pace while rewards for effort and progress keep them coming back for a challenge! Using fact families and delivering the right facts at the right time for each individual student, Reflex meets all students with differentiated and adaptive practice in every game session.

What are Reflex games?

Reflex is gamified throughout with four key program elements that drive student engagement and personal learning agency:

  1. Step right up! Each Reflex session begins with Crabby’s Fact Fair, where students complete carnival games to practice facts learned in previous sessions.
  2. Students then meet Coach Penny for explicit instruction to learn new facts or review material that requires additional practice. Students complete game-driven coaching practice activities, including Picture Puzzle, Hamster Race, Ski Race, and River Race.
  3. On Reflex Island, students can choose various math fact practice games. From serving aliens ice cream to piloting a hot air balloon, students develop fluency while staying engaged with fast-paced questions that don’t feel like work.
  4. Students stay motivated during fluency games as they earn tokens for effort and progress. In the Reflex Store, students can spend their earnings to customize their gaming experience, with loads of choices, including avatar accessories and Progress Tree decorations.

How do students unlock new games on Reflex?

Students begin Reflex with access to two fluency practice games: Ninja to the Stars and Wind Rider.

Once a student answers a certain number of facts correctly on a given day, a Green Light illuminates in the upper right corner of the screen. After achieving the Green Light, students can spend tokens in the Reflex Store to purchase avatar accessories or decorations for their Progress Tree.

Students can unlock a new Reflex game of their choice after earning the Green Light for a consecutive number of days. A sign below the Kirie Tree House indicates how many Green Light days a student has until they can advance to a new game. Students can celebrate their hard work by advancing to new games such as Alien Sundae, Blok Bot, Egyptian Conniption, Fizz Heads, Kirie, QuickSlither, SQ'World, and Swamp Chomper.
