Built on a fact family approach, Reflex uses a variety of explicit strategies to introduce new facts, including the commutative property, rule-based patterns, and visual models.

Reflex continuously monitors students’ performance to help them achieve accomplishments at their own pace. As a student progresses in a Reflex game, the system continuously adjusts the difficulty of fact retrieval based on their progress, providing an adequate level of challenge within the limits of current abilities. By delivering the right facts at the right time for each student, Reflex quickly and effectively helps students achieve automaticity—allowing them to focus all their mental resources on learning new skills and more advanced problem-solving, such as simplifying fractions or solving word problems.
Once a preliminary level of recall exists for a given fact, Reflex introduces retrieval speed as a modest performance requirement using a “Picture Puzzle.”

Go for the Green Light!
Reflex uses the Green Light as a key motivator for students. Once a student answers a certain number of facts correctly, a Green Light illuminates in the upper right corner of their screen, marking the completion of a successful day of fact fluency practice. After achieving the Green Light, students can spend tokens and unlock additional Reflex games.
